The Fur Institute of Canada includes membership from all sectors of the fur trade, native groups, various government departments, conservation and animal-welfare organizations. The Institute administers the current multimillion dollar trap research and development program, as well as assisting in the coordination of trapper-training programs. INTERNATIONAL FUR TRADE FEDERATION (IFTF)
The International Fur Trade Federation is the "United Nations" of the fur trade, with member associations from thirty countries - virtually every nation where furs are produced or traded. (The most recent member to join is The People's Republic of China.)
The Federation administers the distribution of funds collected by a levy applied to all furs sold at public auctions around the world. Considerable funding has been provided to trap research, IUCN wildlife surveys, and for advanced research aimed at further improving the housing and care of farmed furbearing animals.
